Isn’t everything controversial these days? Seems people are thriving on controversy. If it’s not controversial it’s because there are not at least two people interested in the topic. So, when you say ‘could actually get somewhere’ then you are looking for the top most topics people are interested in, thus controversy. Then the biggest contributing factor of what gets anywhere, seems to me comes down to all the people involved in the production of telling the story of the controversy.
Probably over ninety percent of the population of the planet believes in religion. And there has always been conflict between the religions, but right now seems to be during the hottest times of conflict between religions. For me though, I don’t think that I would want to see more on the stuff that dominates life in the usa everyday (Iraq, Iran, Korea, Israel, Shiites, Christians, Moslems, Jews). I’m burned out on it already. But a more well rounded elaborated approach to religions around the world and the conflict between them on the global perspective.
Speaking of global, global warming seems to be a topic heating up right now. How about some truth in the matter of what is really causing global warming… our freaking politics. People either can’t agree that global warming is occurring. The people that believe that’s it’s happening can’t agree on why it’s happening. Or they can’t agree on what the effects are going to be. Or they can’t agree on the time frame at which the shit goes down. Or they can’t agree what to do about it.
Did you see where Morgan Spurlock is going to be doing a series now where he does different stuff for thirty days? Not sure if that’s really ‘making it’ or not. Eating McD’s for a month nearly killed him. There doesn’t seem to be ‘epic’ interest in the controversies of our food industry, but done right and I bet it could be a hit. Shit like when we first starting hearing about mad cow disease and that it was caused by grinding up unusable cow parts and feeding it back to the cows. Sounds like a good ‘horror’ documentary to me. David I could see you doing a zombie cow production on this. Zombie cows (mad cows… really pissed off cows) invading rural communities and eating the people. Or focus on the corporate and political levels of the industry for a movie.
I wish public sex was controversial. Everybody just humping out in the streets, parks…where ever, any time any place like dogs. We would all be in better physical condition and a lot happier.
Legalizing pot has been a little controversial for a few years now. The problem with making a movie about that is, your audience would get stoned and forget to go see your movie. Speaking of pot, no I’m not a toker, but the American Indians coexisted with each other for thousands of years without killing each other by toking on the peace pipe. You never hear about people getting stoned and going out and starting a bar fight and killing people. There probably has never been a stoned driver accident, they drive in slow motion. Maybe all the dignitaries and politicians should start toking. They would all just sit around the table laughing their asses off. There’s a comedy movie. Bush, Gore, Clinton, Janet Reno, and half a dozen Middle East leaders stoned, cotton mouthed and got the munchies. Smells of SNL, doesn’t it. Janet has got to have the good shit though before she cracks a smile.
